Tags provide contextual information about students’ personal or home situations. For example, Tags help you identify students who have special educational needs, are being closely monitored, or have a health care plan in place for their physical, mental or medical conditions.
Assign tags to students
You can assign additional tags to students if the pre-assigned tags don’t sufficiently cover their personal or home situations. You can:
- Manually assign tags
- Sync tags from your school’s Management Information System (MIS)
- Add tags in the student list CSV
- Add a custom tag and assign it to the student
Use tags to find students
In the Student Search page, you can use Tags to filter the list of all students in your school. For example, you can choose to display students who are tagged as ‘Monitored’ or who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL).
- Go to Record Manager > Search.
- Select one or more Tags from the Filter dropdown.
- The page will display just the students with your selected tags. Select View to open the student’s profile.

Important
Staff users can only see students with MONITORED, FSM (Free School Meals) and SEN (Special Educational Needs) tags in Student Search.
View the tags currently in use
The Student Overview panel in Student Search shows which tags are currently in use and how many students they’re assigned to. In the below example, it shows there are 12 students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and three who are under Child Protection (CP). Unassigned tags have zero (0) next to them.
To see how many tags are assigned to students:
- Go to Record Manager > Search.
- Select Show Tags on the Student Overview panel.
Note
Student Overview only shows how many students are given each tag. It doesn’t provide the total number of students in your school.
