This article describes how to add updates to General Notes.
Note
Staff users can only add updates to the General Notes they created.
Update a General Note
- Sign in to Record Manager and go to Dashboard > General Notes tab. All Open, New and Closed General Notes appear in the tab.

Find the record and select Update.
Tip
- You can also select Add Update on the toolbar while reviewing the General Note.
- If you’re updating a General Note that includes multiple students, select the relevant student’s name.
- Complete the Add an update to General Note form:
- The Name of Student(s) field auto-populates. You can remove a student from the record by selecting X on their name.
- The Date of Update and Time of Update fields auto-populate. You can select a new date and time from the Date and Time pickers.

(Required) Select your update from the What is the nature of your update? dropdown.

Assessment An evaluation of the student’s needs. Case Conference A multi-disciplinary meeting involving the family and professionals in relation to child protection concerns. Core Group A meeting with professionals and family members regarding the implementation of a Child Protection Plan. Early Help update Relates to an Early Help assessment or Early Help plan. Email Emails sent or received. Home visit A visit to the student’s home. Intervention Actions were taken to support struggling students. Letter Letters sent or received. Meeting Either face-to-face or online meeting, arranged to discuss the student’s needs of which the student may or may not have attended. Note Any general piece of information that would add context or is important to record on the student’s chronology. Outcome The action and/or resolution. Police involved The student required involvement from the police, either as a perpetrator or victim. Search for prohibited item Physical search conducted by a staff member to look for items that are banned by the organisation. Search for prohibited item conducted by police officer Physical search conducted by police to look for items that are banned by the organisation. Social work visit Social worker visited the student in the educational setting or at home. Student Voice Student’s wishes, feelings and views relating to their care or education Telephone call Phone calls made or received. Text message Texts messages sent or received. Verbal communication Information was shared face-to-face. - Enter the details of your update In the Details of the Update field.
- Attach a file if required. You can attach up to ten files with a maximum file size of 40 MB each. See Supported File Types .
- (Staff users only) For Have you verbally informed a DSL?, select Yes or No. This field is mandatory and will not change the selection in the original General Note record.
- If an injury is present:
- Select Edit on the Body Map. If the update includes multiple students, select the body map for the right student.
- Mark the location(s) of the injury.
- Select Save Changes.
- Select Save to submit your update.
You'll be taken back either to the Dashboard or the student’s Chronology, depending on where you started. To view or return to your update, find and open the record, then select Expand Updates.
