You can create three record types in Record Manager: Safeguarding Concern, Behaviour Incidents, and General Notes. Each record type applies to different situations, such as checking for safety and wellbeing, recording inappropriate or harmful behaviour, or providing general information about a student.
Safeguarding Concerns
| What is it? |
A Safeguarding Concern refers to observations regarding a student's overall safety and wellbeing that are deemed concerning. Safeguarding Concerns apply when a student experiences or shows signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation are observed or reported. In the UK, safeguarding concerns are guided by legislation and policies, including: |

Behaviour Incidents
| What is it? |
Behaviour Incident records are created when disruptive, inappropriate or harmful incidents or events happen at school. This record type also covers actions or patterns of behaviour that violate rules and policies on acceptable behaviour. Examples include instances of verbal aggression, vandalism, or bullying. Although Behaviour Incidents share similarities with Safeguarding Concerns, DSLs and local school authorities manage them differently. For instance, persistent or escalating patterns of Behaviour Incidents may be due to the student’s personal circumstances, pointing to Safeguarding Concerns. |

General Notes
| What is it? |
General Notes allow users to submit records not related to Safeguarding Concerns or Behaviour Incidents. These Notes provide supporting or contextual information about a student and are recorded alongside other record types. Examples of General Notes include meeting notes from student Protection conferences, emails about the student, or reports after Social Welfare visits. However, if these notes are linked to an existing Incident or Concern, update the record instead. See Update a Safeguarding Concern and Update a Behaviour Incident. |
